The PSE index lost 70.99 points in today's session (April 12, 2007).</li><li>The growth is primarily due to Pacific Online's debut trading. The fund was able to subscribe to Initial Public Offering (IPO) shares at 8.88 per share. It reached its ceiling price of 13.25 during the day's trading session. The fund sold all of its LOTO shares resulting to the 2.12% increase of its NAV.</li><li>Wishful thinking: After selling at ceiling price, the fund posted a buy back order of 8.9 pesos per share, hoping someone will sell it to us close to the IPO price. The fund's NAV went up to as high as 1.5565 (almost 18% YTD gain). However, due to the global market crash, it went to as low as 1.3341. Now, the fund's NAV is 1.3657. That's 3.52% upside from January 1, 2007.</li><li>Due to the recent market correction, the fund has learned to <span style="font-weight: bold;">put a cut-loss point of 7% below the purchase price</span> of each stock. Because of this, the fund has sold all its shares of FGEN, MWC, MER, MERB & URC after the china incident, when it suffered a significant loss. Moreover, the fund has also lightened shares of RLC, despite the good consensus of brokers.</li><li>The fund has also set <span style="font-weight: bold;">20% gain as a stock's profit taking point</span>. Why save? Savings can be used<br /><ol><li>to buy stocks</li><li>to buy mutual funds</li><li>to fund a business</li><li>to buy investments / assets</li></ol>With my current financial situation, it seems that I cannot save. But I need to save! That means I have to cut on my expenses specially with food, rent & cellphone bill, which are my biggest costs.<br /><br />With food, I tried limiting my food spending to 200 max per day. That automatically frees 2000 pesos per month. Unfortunately, I am not willing to give up my gimiks. Hehe.<br /><br />With rent, unfortunately, I cannot lower the rate. However, I can do a lot with my cellphone bill. Im currently subscribed to Plan 1200 but im spending 2400 per month. Good thing I was able to cut my average cellphone bill to 1500. That's 37.5% savings on my cellphone bill!<br /><br />With my cost cutting endeavors, I now can save up to 2900 pesos per month. That's 34800 per year. If I dont spend my 13th month pay, that would have given me an extra 19000 in a year. I would have saved 53,800.<br /><br />This amount, 53800, is more than enought to buy stocks and/or mutual funds. Together with my friend Jun, we put our money in a couple of mutual funds - ATR-Kim Eng Equity Fund & First Metro Save &amp; Learn Equity Fund. ATR was 3rd in terms of performance. First Met was the number 1 performer at the end of 2006.<br /><br />A few weeks after I started with mutual funds, I opened my account in Citisec Online to trade stocks. It was a good year for me and the whole market as well. Let's say you invested Php 5000 with me on March 31, 2006. At 1.0000 per share, that would have given you 5000 shares. In December 31, 2006, the NAV has become 1.3243 per share. We exported (and still exporting a few) wooden martial arts to the US and Europe. Three to six months later, we were able to recover the investment that we put in the company. Moreover, we were making money. Lots of it.<br /><br />It wouldnt be a surprise if a few months lated, we started a new company. This time it was a web design / development company. In in just a month, we were able to close sales worth 150K. This was also the time I resigned from work to focus on our company. I even bid the corporate world goodbye.<br /><br />You would say that in December 2004, it was really a very merry Christmas and prosperous new year. We had a fattening Christmas party. And we were delightful to receive dividends with 5-digit figures. This was the time when we thought that were already getting rich.<br /><br />But for some reason, a few months after, I found myself broke and desperately looking for a job. The web design / development company was almost bankrupt. Although the export company was still alive, it was barely making money.<br /><br />We got rich fast. We also got poor fast. So now I ask myself...<br /><br />Where did my money go?<br /><br />To be honest with you, I dont have an answer to my question. However, this question made me realize that I have a problem managing my own finances. Now that im a little older and wiser, I have really become conscious about how I spend my money.
